A study of the relationship between information literacy and evidence based librarianship: A case study of librarians of academic library of Kermanshah

Abstract

Purpose: The main purpose of this article is assessing the relationship between evidence-based librarianship and information literacy among academic librarians in the city of Kermanshah, west of Iran.

Design/methodology/approach: The article method is correlation. The research population contains 61 individuals that were tested in their total complete enumeration. For assessing information literacy, we made use of a questionnaire that designed based on the(Association of College and Research Libraries, ACRL) and for evidence-based librarianship assessment we used a questionnaire that was designed by present researcher. For data analysis, we used descriptive statistics and in order to test the assumptions of research, Pearson correlation coefficient were used.

Finding: The level of evidence based librarianship components(ability to formulate questions, finding evidence, critical evaluation, applying the evidence) in the research population were in the average level but concerning evidence evaluation component, were lower than the average level, meanwhile in all of the information literacy components found to be higher than the average level. There are correlations between all variables of information literacy components and evidence-based librarianship as well.

Conclusion: Existence the relation between Evidence-based librarianship and information literacy, means that the high level of information literacy have led to greater use of evidence-based librarianship.
