Purpose: This research aimed to study the scope of the book publishing, the social sectors and areas of interest regarding reading in Iran.
Methodology: This paper reviews 95 information sources (including scholarly papers, theses and research projects) in the last four decades (1350 to 1390). It was carried out through the reading and analyzing of texts
Findings: Findings showed that in four decades most studies regarding reading were carried out about reading among students and less about other sections of the society. In addition, most researches have been done to evaluate students reading of non-course materials, reading habits and ways of promoting reading culture. Findings also revealed that most researchers pointed to lack of reading culture among families and education system in Iran as the most important factors inhibiting the reading habits.

Purpose: Epistemic beliefs imply individuals’ beliefs about knowledge and knowing. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between students' epistemic beliefs (EBs) and their information behavior (IB).
Methodology: This research was an applied survey. The research population included all 19965 students enrolled in Ferdowsi University of Mashhad during the academic year of 2010-2011. By using relative stratified random sampling, 364 students were selected as the study sample. They completed an "epistemic beliefs inventory" for measuring their epistemic beliefs and an "information behavior questionnaire" for measuring their information behavior.
Findings: Students' EBs were significantly different in terms of their gender and academic levels. Students' EBs significantly correlated their IB. Those with high level EBs had more self-efficacy in information environment than those with low level EBs. In relation to previous researches, the findings confirmed that instructing and reference librarians and information system designer should take these beliefs into account for improving information behavior

Purpose: The research purpose was to analyze the usage of each part of the Iranian nanotechnology databases and to analyze users’ information seeking behaviors regarding traffic sources.
Methodology: The research method was an analytical method using transaction log analysis. This study was performed through the analysis of the interaction between users and the database transaction files.
Findings: Results showed that Databases of professionals and Dissertations had more information and thus meet the needs of users more. Resource usage by return visitors was more than usage by new visitors. Return visitors had less Bounce Rate. Between traffic sources, the usage of search engines was more than direct. The most bounce rate was in using search engines. Page view is different among the two types of users (return users and new users). Bounce rate is very different in the two types of users. Also, the bounce rate is very different in the three types of traffic sources. Page view is different in the three types of traffic sources. The average duration of visits to each page is a little different in the three types of traffic sources.

Purpose: Information behavior is an interactive process in which most people are involved when they feel the need for information. In the new mindset, the user of information is not considered as only the information consumer or information seeker but as a person doing search in the context of sociology, psychology, epistemology.
Methodology: This paper is a review of relevant literature on the theoretical aspects and the application of social cognition that specifically deals with information behavior.
Findings: The review of the related literature indicated that information activities, regardless of the environment and user behaviors, can not be understood clearly. Behavior, environment, and people (and their beliefs) interact with each other and this interaction must be understood in order to understand the function. This approach provides a comprehensive review and analysis based on social and individual factors relating to information behavior in a society, and thus would help improve the information systems and productivity of information seeking.

Barriers to the use of web2.0 technologies in Iran university libraries

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the main barriers to use Web2.0 technologies in academic libraries of Iran.
Methodology: A descriptive and analytical survey method was used. The population of this research was the librarians' academic libraries. For collecting data a researcher- developed questionnaire were used.
Findings: Results showed that librarians have little familiarity with web technologies 2. According to the results, most of their familiarity is related to the blog and the lowest level of familiarity is related to social cataloging. Librarians use wiki tool than other tools. Lowest use of these technologies, are tagging and social bookmarking. The results also showed that all three factors, have effects on the use of Web 2 technologies in academic libraries, but the most effective factor is related to the users and the least effective factor is related to factors associated with the librarians. From the librarian's point of view, use of web 2.0 technologies is necessary and greatest necessity is RSS, averaging 1. 95. Some suggestions are given by the researcher in order to remove barriers to the use of web technologies in university libraries.

Purpose: The main purpose of the present research was to study and compare the semantic and episodic memory functions in public service librarians in Tehran special libraries.
Methodology: Population consisted of 151 special libraries in Tehran. Having used purposive sampling, the researcher selected 31 special libraries. In the second step, 40 librarians were randomly selected to be surveyed. Data were gathered by using 2 kinds of tests. High and low frequency words as well as famous and non-famous images tests were used to examine episodic memory. On the other hand, Word fluency and semantic categories tests were used to examine semantic memory.
Findings: According to research findings, no difference was seen between two kinds of memory. Job experience was not a determined factor in the memory functions and last but not least there was a clear meaningful difference Episodic and Semantic memory scores among public librarians.

Purpose: Generating bibliographic records to describe and analyze information resources has been an important library activity from past to present. Despite the changes in information carriers as well as storage and retrieval processes and users information seeking behaviors, resource description is still very important. The changes resulting from new technologies in information organization stems from users’ need to rapid and accurate access to information resources. In other word, users are interested in remote and full text resources and to meet this library catalogs should be responsible as an interface between users and library resources. Accordingly, it`s very necessary to change information organization methods and use from new methods to describing and analyzing documents. For this reason, simultaneously with expand using of web-based and internet technologies, information organization area experts tried to change information organization methods and started this work with cataloging rules. Today, the Resource Description and Access (RDA) Standard is developed for this new environment and different libraries in the world replace previous cataloging rules (Anglo-American) with this new one.
Methodology: In this article and through a review of the related literature, the developments process of cataloging rules and the story of developing new bibliographic methods and standards with emphasis on the Library of Congress activities are described.
Findings: RDA is a better and more responding standard for the description and access to library resources. Knowing this help Iranian specialists to decide how using RDA rules in Iran.

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to examine the satisfaction rate of academic staff in using guidelines and an instructional film when storing their research outputs in the organizational repository SISU. Academic staff would have little problems if the system become useable and this issue can be effective in decreasing errors at the moment of storing.
Methodology: This research was an applied evaluative approach “Comparing Prototype Alternatives” method was used in this research. The reseach population was the academic staff of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad among whom 10 members were are selected as sample for this research.
Findings: The satisfaction of academic staff was examined with benefit and efficiency concepts. The result of absolute T statistical test showed that guidelines and the instructional films gained the satisfaction of the academic staff about the benefits and efficiency of these guidelines. Results also showed that criteria such as accessibility of guidelines, clarity and comprehensibility of them, necessary instructions at different point of worksheets about guidelines; and criteria such as high clarity of voice, adding texts to films, and the movement of cursor at important points for instructions film can provide more satisfaction among users in using the

Why and when Wikipedia is cited in journal articles?

Pupose: The aim of this research was to identify the motivations of citation to Wikipedia in scientific papers. Also, the number of citation to Wikipedia, location of citation, type of citing papers, subject of citing and cited articles were determined and compared in different subject fields.
Methodology: Statistical population of this research included English articles indexed in Scopus in 2007 and 2012 that had cited to Wikipedia. 602 article were selected using stratified random sampling. Content analysis and bibliometric methods were used to carry out the research.
Findings: Results showed that there were 35 motivations for citing Wikipedia and the most frequent were providing general information and definition, statistics and concepts. The number of citations to Wikipedia had increased from 2007 to 2012. Citations to Wikipedia were often in sections such as introduction, body, materials and methods, and theoretical foundations of papers. Citing papers were often research papers. Computer sciences, internet and chemistry were the most cited subjects. These results show that citation to Wikipedia is often in the introductory sections of papers and is done to provide the facts, definitions, concepts and basic information. There were disciplinary differences in terms of citing Wikipedia.

Purpose: The aim of this research was to investigate the subject trends structure of information organization articles in Iranian library and information science journals between 1384-1388 and providing its semantic map.
Methodology: The subject trends structure was studied in two sections: First, the weight of each subject term used in information organization articles was identified, and then the relationships rate of terms measured. Content analysis and weighting technique were used for the first section and co-term analysis was used for the second section. Then term/document occurrence matrix of these terms was created. In addition, the significance of relations among terms was measured by Pearson Correlation Coefficient. With input weighting and relationship data in Ucinet software, the term structure of information organization field was visualized.
Findings: Findings show that high-weight categories are: “Authority files”, “Indexing”, “Classification”. Research findings about terms relationships shows that the term “Classification” is considered in theoretical approach. Also, the term “metadata” and its narrower concepts are considered in web-based and information retrieval approaches. Also, the term “Indexing” is considered in web-based and automatic approach. Also the term “Indexing” is at the center of the information organization field. Semantic map of information organization in Persian articles illustrated three regions of subject areas including: 1. metadata, web and IR, 2. Thesauri, and 3. Cataloging and indexing.

Purpose: the aim of this research is was to identify issues and problems relating to both MARC21 and UNIMARC and to reveal the MARC status in Iran. Eventually the views of Iranian MARC experts about these issues and their suggestions for ultimate MARC format for Iran were gathered.
Methodology: Survey research was used for this research. Statistical population included all of the Iranian MARC experts who were able to contribute in this research. The sample size of the respondents was 22 MARC experts that were determined by using Snowball sampling. Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire which was distributed among Iranian MARC experts to gather the views.
Findings: From the viewpoints of experts, the MARC status, teaching and use of it was not satisfactory in Iran. However, the most important suggestion of them for those problems was establishing a committee of MARC experts to support and update MARC in Iran and more attention to training and education in this field.

The Role of public libraries in cultural development of Birjand city

Purpose: The main aim of this research was to investigate the impact of Birjand public libraries on cultural development of this city.
Methodology:The statistical population of this survey covered the members of the public libraries of the General Office of South Khorasan Public Library Foundation. The population size included 4817 of whom 357 persons were selected as the sample based on sample size table by Krejcie and Morgan. To gather data from the population, a researcher-made questionnaire was used. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics by SPSS.
Findings: findings showed that, from the respondents' view, the overall role of Birjand public libraries in the cultural development was more than average (score 3.28 out of 5). However, this amount was somewhat different in various aspects of cultural development as follow: 3.26 for the promotion of cultural identity, 3.16 for cultural exchanges among the members, 3.3 for the promotion of reading habits, 3.43 for increasing reading per capita and knowledge improvement, 2.98 for the development of cultural and artistic instruction, and finally 3.28 for cultural development. The results gained from the testing of hypotheses showed that there were not any significant differences between men and women respondents, the three age groups investigated, the respondents with various educational level, and three various job categories (respectively with p= 0.236, p= 0.115, p= 0.124, p= 0.843). The findings also showed that, in all aspects of cultural development except for the cultural and artistic instruction, the impact of public libraries, from the respondents' point of view, was more than average. Thus, it seems that the authorities of the General Office of South Khorasan Public Libraries Foundation need to take the implementation of cultural and artistic instruction programs into consideration more than before.
